Hello everyone,
I wanted to share something that genuinely helped me prepare for the IELTS Reading section — and it came from an unexpected place.
I recently came across a detailed guide on scenario testing from the software world, and the way it breaks down complex processes into simple step-by-step user journeys actually gave me a new way to approach IELTS reading passages.
Here is what I mean. In scenario testing, testers ask: “What is the user trying to achieve? What are the steps? What is the expected result?” I started applying the exact same three questions to every IELTS reading passage I practiced with. What is the author trying to say? How do they build the argument? What conclusion do they reach?
It sounds unusual, but structured thinking is structured thinking — whether you are testing software or reading an academic text under exam pressure.
The guide also talks about how scenario testing focuses on end-to-end journeys rather than isolated details. This reminded me of how many IELTS candidates (including me, early on) get lost in individual difficult words instead of following the full flow of a passage. Understanding the whole journey of a text matters more than understanding every single sentence perfectly.
If you enjoy reading about logical frameworks and want to strengthen your analytical reading skills, I recommend giving scenario testing a read. It is surprisingly relevant to academic comprehension practice.
Has anyone else found inspiration for IELTS preparation from unexpected sources? Would love to hear your experiences.
Good luck to everyone preparing!
