Hi folks. I commute over Highway 50 for work several times a month and I am tired of getting caught out by closures and construction I could have planned around. There is always something happening, revetment work, slides, weather, and I usually find out about it when traffic stops. I would like to get ahead of it. Does anyone who travels that corridor regularly have a system, and is there a source that covers El Dorado County closely enough to be useful? I usually drive midweek rather than weekends, if that changes what is worth watching.

Anyone who runs that corridor regularly has been burned the same way. My system is two layers. First the state highway conditions feed for live closures and chain controls, checked before I leave, not while I am driving. Second a county source for the scheduled stuff, project phases, work windows, anything that is planned rather than sudden. I use the El Dorado page on CA Today https://catoday.news/el-dorado-county , for that layer. Tip: know your alternate routes before you need them, and know which ones are genuinely usable in winter, because a couple of them look fine on a map and are a bad idea in practice. Leave earlier than you think in storm season.
