I’ve heard one school of thought is to avoid coloring books so that children aren’t limited to coloring only within lines at such a young age. My almost two-year-old daughter is very interested in picking up her crayons and coloring what she sees in books and magazines. How can I change her coloring habit?
I thought it would be safe to buy the simplest coloring book, perhaps just one with shapes.

If your daughter loves picking up pencils and doodling in books and magazines, it’s a great sign of her curiosity and interest in the world. Instead of completely changing this habit, you can offer coloring books with simple shapes—circles, squares, lines—to help her practice hand-eye coordination and color while still allowing for creative freedom.

For such a little one, simple options are ideal. You can choose coloring pages at https://wowcoloring2kids.com/catnap-coloring-pages/ with large shapes or individual figures so she can practice her hand grip and movement without being limited by lines. You can also let her draw freely in magazines or on sheets of paper, developing her imagination and experimenting with color. Over time, she will learn to combine free-form drawing and line coloring, but for now, the most important thing is to maintain her interest in creativity and give her room to experiment.
