I used to open a football match and assume I had to find something worth betting on there. Eventually I noticed that another sport sometimes offered a much clearer situation at the same time. Comparing tennis, football, and cricket markets made it easier to pass on weak opportunities instead of forcing a bet. Does looking across several sports actually help with value, or does it just create too many choices?

Looking across sports can be useful as long as you actually understand the events you are comparing. More choices make it easier to skip a weak market, but there is little value in moving into a sport you barely follow just because the odds look higher. I would rather compare several familiar markets and choose the clearest one. The ability to pass completely is also important because sometimes none of the available prices justify a wager.
