If you’re preparing for AB-900 and the data protection questions feel like the vague part, a clear plan makes them much easier. This exam sits at the foundation level, but it still expects you to think like an admin who keeps data safe in a Microsoft 365 environment that uses Copilot.

Microsoft’s certification page points to the Exam AB-900 study guide as the place to see which topics the exam covers, along with any updates and extra resources. Read it first and turn each data protection topic into a short question you can answer from memory. If you can’t explain a topic simply, mark it for review.

Next, go to the official documentation. A Microsoft Q&A thread on AB-900 prep suggests Microsoft 365 documentation, Microsoft 365 Copilot documentation and Microsoft Purview documentation, plus a module on implementing sensitivity labels. Since Purview and labels are central to protecting data, these are good places to spend your reading time.

Then test yourself. Microsoft’s free practice assessment for AB-900 gives a score report with the answer, a rationale and links to more information for every question. Take that one first, then use the AB-900 exam practice questions on CertBoosters to see more scenario wording. When you miss a question, note whether you mixed up two tools or just forgot a detail, because the fix is different.

One last practical tip is about registration. Microsoft strongly recommends registering for the exam with a personal Microsoft account, because exam records tied to a work or school account can be lost and cannot be recovered if you leave that organization. It’s an easy thing to get right before you book. Has anyone here already taken AB-900? Which data protection topics came up most for you?
