I’ve been trying to make my IELTS speaking practice feel more natural instead of memorizing answers. One thing that seems to help is choosing everyday subjects that I already know something about and then trying to describe them in English without preparing every sentence beforehand.
Pets seem like an easy example because there are so many things you can talk about, such as appearance, personality, daily routines, training, and your own experiences. For example, I recently practiced describing an English golden retriever and found that it gave me plenty of opportunities to use descriptive vocabulary.
Do you think practicing with familiar subjects like pets is useful for IELTS Speaking? Or is it better to focus mainly on typical IELTS topics and sample questions? I’d be interested to hear what methods other people have found helpful for becoming more fluent without sounding like they memorized their answers.
