For me, the close finishes are probably the best part. I remember watching a game with a couple of friends where one team was comfortably ahead for most of the evening. We were already talking about leaving when the other team suddenly started catching up in the final quarter. Everyone ended up staying until the last few seconds because the score had become so close. Since then I’ve started paying more attention to games that look competitive rather than just following the biggest teams. A close match can be much more entertaining when you don’t know what is going to happen next.

I only started watching basketball occasionally, but I understand why people get hooked on it. What I notice most is how quickly the situation can change. You can look away for a minute and suddenly the score is completely different. I had that happen when watching a game with my brother recently. I went to make some coffee and came back a few minutes later to find that the team he was supporting had turned the whole game around. We ended up talking about that comeback for the rest of the evening.
