What is the safest way to move old Thunderbird MBOX files into Microsoft 365? I need all folders and attachments preserved during the migration.

I recently completed a migration project involving dozens of Thunderbird mailbox archives. Initially, I assumed Microsoft would provide a direct upload option for MBOX files, but I quickly learned that Office 365 doesn’t support MBOX imports natively. Most online guides suggested using Thunderbird as an intermediary, but after testing that approach, I realized how time-consuming it becomes when handling large amounts of email data.

My biggest goal was to migrate MBOX to Office 365 without affecting folder structure or losing important attachments. Some archives contained legal correspondence and financial records dating back several years, so accuracy was critical.

The manual method worked for small folders, but larger mailboxes caused synchronization delays and occasional upload interruptions. That’s when I switched to the DRS Softech MBOX File Converter. The software offered direct migration capabilities and eliminated the need for complicated intermediate steps.

One feature I particularly liked was the mailbox preview option. Before starting the transfer, I could verify folders, emails, and attachments. The tool also supported batch processing, which made it easy to handle multiple MBOX files in a single operation.

The overall experience was smooth, and the migrated emails appeared correctly inside Microsoft 365 with their original properties preserved. Anyone looking to import MBOX to Office 365 should carefully consider the amount of data involved. For small mailboxes, manual methods may work, but for larger archives, an automated approach provides far better results and reduces the risk of data inconsistencies.
