I ran into a frustrating issue this week where Outlook Fails to Open in Safe Mode no matter what I try. It started after Outlook crashed while syncing a large mailbox. Normally, opening Outlook in Safe Mode helps diagnose add-in problems, but this time even Safe Mode refused to start.
I followed several common troubleshooting steps. First, I reset the navigation pane using the outlook.exe /resetnavpane command. Then I created a new Outlook profile and even ran the Microsoft Office repair utility. Unfortunately, the same error kept appearing. At that point, I realized the issue might be related to PST file corruption rather than Outlook settings.
What confused me most was that Outlook failed to launch in safe mode even after disabling add-ins and repairing Office. Several community threads suggested checking the Outlook data file, which made sense because the mailbox had been growing for years and contained thousands of emails and attachments.
To avoid data loss, I tested the DRS Softech PST Recovery Tool. The software scanned my damaged PST file, recovered mailbox items, and allowed me to preview emails before saving them. After exporting the repaired PST and reconnecting it to Outlook, the application started working normally again.
Has anyone else experienced Outlook refusing to open even in Safe Mode? I’m interested to know whether the issue was caused by PST corruption, profile damage, or something completely different in your case.
