Loathsome Mire doesn’t play like a normal endgame map, and that’s the first thing players need to accept. You’re not there to farm piles of currency, tablets, or experience. You’re chasing a very specific Delirium reward, and that makes smart routing, clean filters, and the right PoE2 Items setup matter more than slow full-clearing.
What Is Loathsome Mire in Path of Exile 2
Loathsome Mire is an endgame Delirium sub-area tied to the 0.5.0 Delirium overhaul. It’s listed as a level 80 endgame area, but it isn’t built like a regular loot map.
The area blocks experience gain and loss, monsters drop no items, and league tablets don’t drop there. That sounds harsh, but it also tells you exactly what the zone is for: special amulet bases.
1. Use the Delirium Bar, Not Full-Clear Habits
This is for players who keep missing the entrance or feel like the map turns into a dead end. Loathsome Mire is about reaching Delirium events before the fog expires.
Watch for these cues while running.
• The Delirium progress bar shows how deep you are in the fog.
• Special Delirium encounters can appear along that bar.
• Mirror shards must be reached and broken before the fog clears.
• Moving with the fog direction helps push toward the map boss route.
If you stop to clean every side pack, you’ll often lose the timing. Treat the run like a forward push, not a vacuum-cleaner map clear.
2. Understand Why the Zone Feels Empty
This part matters for anyone who enters Loathsome Mire and thinks the game bugged out. The emptiness is mostly the point, not a loot-filter hallucination.
The key rules are simple.
• Monsters inside Loathsome Mire drop no items.
• You don’t gain experience from kills inside the area.
• You don’t lose experience from deaths inside the area.
• The area doesn’t drop league tablets.
That means normal map value doesn’t apply here. If you’re judging the run by rares, currency, or tablet drops, you’re using the wrong yardstick.
3. Chase the Double-Notable Amulet Bases
This is the real reason people care about Loathsome Mire. The area is linked to two new amulet base types that can grant two instilled notables.
Plan around these tradeoffs.
• One base gives two instilled notables but costs one suffix slot.
• The other gives two instilled notables but costs one prefix slot.
• Community searches commonly use Twisted Amulet and Distorted Amulet.
• The exact official name-to-prefix or suffix mapping isn’t fully confirmed from the supplied notes.
Losing an affix slot is a real cost. A build hungry for attributes, resistances, or cast speed may hate losing a suffix, while life or Energy Shield stacking can make a lost prefix painful.
4. Fix Your Loot Filter Before Farming
This is the small mistake that can waste the whole run. Some players reported clicking the event and seeing nothing because the new bases weren’t visible enough.
Do these checks first.
• Update your filter before serious Delirium farming.
• Make Twisted Amulet and Distorted Amulet clearly visible if your filter supports them.
• Hold the item-highlight key after the reward event.
• Don’t leave instantly just because the screen doesn’t explode with drops.
Loathsome Mire rewards can feel quiet compared with normal mapping. A bad filter makes that even worse.
Which Loathsome Mire Strategy Should You Choose
If you want speed, rush Delirium bar events. If you want safety, slow down only enough to stay alive. If you want profit, price the notables and affix penalty before crafting, and when your build needs a cleaner base or stronger PoE2 gear path, U4GM can help you compare upgrades without wasting more Delirium attempts.
